Casa del Littorio

The Sala Littorio can be identified with the hall of the Trgovski dom, built  for the Slovenian community in 1904 by architect Max Fabiani (1865-1962) to house the city's Trade and craft consortium (Trgovsko-obrtna zadruga). On 4 November 1926, it was ravaged by Fascists and requisitioned by the Italian state; it was subsequently sold to the Fascist Party (1933), thus becoming a Casa del Littorio. For a brief period in 1945, the building (renamed Ljudski dom) hosted 32 Slovenian cultural organizations, but in 1946 were forced by the Allied Military Government to relocate. In 1954, the building was given to the Italian state by order of the Allied Military Government.
